Workshop on Social Registries
From 8 to 11 September, IPC-IG researchers and speakers from Kenya, Morocco, Brazil, Djibouti and Senegal facilitated a training workshop with the Government of Burundi on integrated management information systems of social protection programmes to support implementation of a Social Registry in Burundi. The workshop was co-facilitated by the Sécretariat Exécutif Permanent de la Commission Nationale de Protection Sociale (SEP/CNPS), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP) in Burundi.
Research report on the existing Management Information Systems and registries of Social Protection programs in Burundi
From September to December 2020, IPC-IG conducted interviews and a literature review to evaluate the existing MIS and registries of the Social Protection programs in Burundi. The main findings and recommendations, which will inform the implementation of a Social Registry in the country, were shared with the Government of Burundi.
Feasibility study report and roadmap for the implementation of a Social Registry in Burundi
In March 2021, IPC-IG handed a feasibility study and a roadmap for the implementation of a Social Registry to the Government of Burundi. After conducting a an institutional, legal and implementation capacity analysis, the authors described in this report the options feasible in Burundi, their limitations, pros & cons, estimated implementation schedules and costs associated. During a ‘Validation Workshop’, on 18 March, representatives from the Government of Burundi and key stakeholders had the opportunity to contribute with comments and suggestions to be included in the study final version. In that occasion, the study was approved by all the representatives and praised by the Sécretaire Exécutif Permanent de la Commission Nationale de Protection Sociale.
Capacity building technical consultations on Social Registries for the SEP/CNPS and other major SP stakeholders
Between December 2020 and March 2021, 9 capacity building sessions on Social Registries were held by the IPC-IG with an array of stakeholders in Burundi: members of the social registry working group and the the Sécretariat Exécutif Permanent de la Commission Nationale de Protection Social (SEP/CNPS), staff from the Burundi Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (ISTEEBU) and representatives from international development partners.
