The five-part 'Social Protection Fundamentals and Topics' series of micro-courses has been translated into Arabic. These self-paced courses provide an introduction to social protection and cover core topics such as programmes, digital social protection, adaptive social protection, and rural poverty. They take from 3 to 6 hours to complete and are also available in English.

This series is the result of a partnership between the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the socialprotection.org platform. The Arabic version was developed in partnership with UNICEF Tunisia, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), KFW and GIZ Tunisia/BMZ, within the framework of a project on investing towards Children’s Human Capital through a Sustainable and Inclusive Social Protection System in Tunisia.

The socialprotection.org team invited Rémy Pigois, UNICEF's Social Policy Manager in the Maghreb region, and Nourjelha M. Yousif, Research Associate at the IPC-IG, to talk about the importance of these micro-courses. Watch the video here

“I strongly believe that this section will contribute to the achievement of the SDGs in the Arab region, and, especially, it will contribute to all targets related to the social protection floor”, says Pigois.

He also adds that UNICEF in Maghreb will disseminate these courses among social workers and civil servants in the social protection sector to help build their capacities and achieve a common vision on social protection floors.
