The IPC-IG, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in the Arab States and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Office for Near East and North Africa (NENA), will carry out a study on “Expanding Social insurance for agricultural workers in the NENA countries: identifying key constraints and discussing policy options”.

One of the main gaps in social protection in developing countries remains the limited coverage of contributory schemes among agricultural workers, especially where the agricultural sector is essential for livelihoods, such as the NENA region.

This project aims to be a space for dialogue between development agencies and governments in the region. It will promote structured discussions with experts and produce a series of policy-oriented briefs and One Pagers focused on the best practices to overcome the challenges for expanding social insurance schemes for agricultural workers.

A webinar will be hosted by socialprotection.org to disseminate the new project, as well as the previous IPC-IG and FAO Working Paper “The state of social insurance for agricultural workers in the Near East and North Africa and challenges for expansions”. More information on dates to be released soon.
