The IPC-IG staff is selected through a competitive process. Our Internship Programme aims at offering to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to experience the day-to-day work of an international research centre that acts as a global forum for policy dialogue and knowledge-sharing in development innovations. It is designed to contribute to the training of new professionals and facilitate their entry in the labour market. It also seeks to provide support to the IPC-IG's applied research activities, policy advisory services and communications outreach, among other tasks. This opportunity will complement the interns’ own practical experience in various areas related to the Centre’s thematic areas. In addition, our programme offers the possibility of further involvement in the United Nations System. The Internship Programme operates under the rules and policies of the UNDP Internship Regulations.
Application for internships
Applicants must complete the IPC-IG's Internship Application online form and upload the following required documents:
Copy of the passport’s identification page (in the case of foreign applicants) or ID card (RG) for Brazilian nationals.
Proof of enrolment in a certified educational institution and/or university; or certificate of conclusion/diploma issued no longer than 12 months prior to internship start date.
(Optional): Recommendation letter from a senior faculty member or employer who has directly supervised the applicant in the recent past and who is fully acquainted with the applicant's performance.
How does the selection process work?
Applications are received all year round.
Vacancies are not necessarily available in all areas.
Applications are assessed in the three months prior to the date indicated by the candidate as their “earliest starting date”. For example, if a candidate is available from September onwards, his/her application will be considered for selection processes taking place from June to August.
When a vacancy is made available, potential candidates will receive an e-mail with the Terms of Reference and an invitation for an interview. Selected candidates will receive additional information. Candidates that were not selected and those who were not invited for the interview will be asked whether they want to renew their application for a future time.
All communication will be carried out exclusively by e-mail.
Internship Location: Brasília, Brazil. Internships are currently being held under a telecommuting regime due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Duration: 12 to 24 weeks
Workload: 20 to 37.5 hours per week
Pre-requisites: candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course at a recognised university or hold a certified diploma issued no more than one year prior to the internship start date.
This internship is not a paid position. However, interns may receive a monthly stipend according to the UNDP's rules and regulations. This stipend is intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation. All other related expenses will be borne by the intern, or by the government or sponsoring institution. In addition, interns are responsible for procuring accommodation for themselves, transfers, visas, travel and health/life insurance, etc.
This stipend will not be paid if the intern is already sponsored by an institution/government and receives a scholarship or stipend from them: it is not cumulative.
Health and life insurance
The IPC-IG is not responsible for any financial losses, personal illnesses and/or accidents that might occur during the internship period. Therefore, interns must have their own health and life insurance. Applicants must provide their insurance details in the application form.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all internships are being held under a telecommuting regime, with no expected date of return to in-person activities. Nevertheless, once it is determined that UNDP personnel in Brazil must return to the office, interns are expected to follow suit.
